The Nature of Science
Grade: 7-12

Objectives:
1. Recall laboratory safety practices and identify common laboratory equipment.
2. Create your own pea plant experiment, gather data regularly, and write a laboratory report to conclude the unit (rubric provided).
3. Describe how scientific investigations are conducted using the scientific method to design, conduct, and interpret the data from an experiment.
4. Identify possible sources of errors in an experiment and how those errors can affect the outcome of an experiment.
5. Utilize the metric and English systems of measurement and perform metric conversions.
6. Recall the characteristics of living things.
7. Generate tables and graphs when given data.
8. Define and identify the parts of an experiment including the control, constants, variables (independent & dependent), and data (quantitative & qualitative).
9. Distinguish the differences between a hypothesis, theory, and law.
10. Describe the importance of ethics in science.
